Nearly a year after being abandoned in a heartbreaking act, a Tennessee dog named Buddy has found the happy ending every rescue animal deserves. Today, he lives with a loving family in Massachusetts, where his adopter says he has embraced his new life with remarkable resilience.
Despite the hardships he experienced early on, Buddy’s joyful personality shines through every day.
A Shocking Beginning
In 2025, surveillance cameras at the Giles County Animal Shelter in Tennessee captured a disturbing incident.
Buddy’s former owner was seen throwing the dog over the shelter’s approximately six-foot fence before leaving. Shelter staff later recovered Buddy safely, and authorities investigated the incident.
According to reports, the former owner later turned himself in to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office and faced an animal cruelty charge related to the incident.
Fortunately, Buddy escaped without life-threatening injuries and soon began receiving care at the shelter.
A Familiar Face Caught One Woman’s Attention
Hundreds of miles away in Massachusetts, 23-year-old Isabella Forte came across Buddy’s story on social media.
What immediately caught her attention wasn’t just the circumstances—it was Buddy’s appearance.
She said the dog looked almost identical to Miles, her father’s beloved rescue dog from his college years. Although Miles passed away when Isabella was very young, his memory remained an important part of her family’s life.
After seeing Buddy’s photo, she knew she wanted to help.
“We need that dog,” she recalled thinking.
A Journey to a New Home
After contacting the shelter about adoption, Isabella’s application was approved.
With help from Critter Cavalry Rescue, Buddy traveled nearly 1,200 miles from Tennessee to Connecticut, where Isabella met him and brought him home to Massachusetts.
The long journey marked the beginning of a completely different life.

Learning to Trust Again
Like many rescued dogs, Buddy still carries some emotional scars.
According to Isabella, he can be cautious around unfamiliar people and sometimes shows signs of nervousness. However, his confidence continues to grow each day.
She describes him as:
- Brave despite his past
- Energetic and playful
- Curious about new experiences
- Exceptionally affectionate
Most of all, she says, Buddy is incredibly happy.
“He never stops smiling.”
A New Best Friend
Buddy also gained another family member—a fellow rescue dog already living in Isabella’s home.
The two dogs quickly became inseparable.
They enjoy:
- Playing tug-of-war
- Wrestling together
- Snuggling during quiet moments
- Following each other around the house
Their close friendship has helped Buddy continue adjusting to his new environment.
The Power of Rescue
Buddy’s story highlights the resilience that many rescued animals display when given patience, stability, and compassion.
Dogs recovering from neglect or abandonment often benefit from:
- Consistent routines
- Positive reinforcement
- Gentle introductions to new people
- Veterinary care
- Time to build trust at their own pace
While recovery can take time, many rescue dogs go on to become deeply bonded family companions.
A Happy Ending
Today, Buddy’s life looks nothing like it did one year ago.
Instead of fear and uncertainty, he enjoys a safe home, loving caregivers, and a canine companion who shares his adventures every day.
His journey is a reminder that one act of compassion can completely change an animal’s future. For Buddy, a difficult beginning has been replaced by the comfort of belonging—and, as his family lovingly says, a smile that never seems to fade.
