Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, celebrates her 75th birthday this year, reaffirming her long-standing reputation as one of the most dedicated members of the British Royal Family. Known for her tireless work ethic, extensive charitable involvement, and practical approach to royal life, the Princess Royal has made clear that she has no immediate plans to reduce her public duties.
Her continued commitment comes during a period of transition for the monarchy, as King Charles III focuses on fulfilling his role amid ongoing health treatment, and senior royals take on expanded workloads. Princess Anne’s steady presence remains a cornerstone of the Royal Family’s public service.
Decades of Dedication
Princess Anne is widely recognized as one of the hardest-working members of the Royal Family. According to official engagement statistics published by The Court Circular, she regularly tops the list of annual public appearances and events attended by senior royals.
In 2024, she undertook more than 470 engagements, including domestic visits, overseas tours, and official ceremonies. This figure surpassed even that of the monarch, highlighting her exceptional dedication.
Her work takes her across the United Kingdom and abroad, representing the Crown at events ranging from state occasions to small community gatherings. She is known for her punctuality, thorough preparation, and ability to engage warmly with people from all walks of life.
Patronage and Charitable Work
Princess Anne holds over 300 patronages, presidencies, and honorary memberships with organizations across diverse fields, according to Royal.uk. These include causes related to health, sport, education, animal welfare, and the armed forces.
One notable example is her role as Patron of the Motor Neurone Disease Association since 2008. Tanya Curry, the charity’s Chief Executive, has praised Anne’s commitment and energy, recalling her ability to maintain an active pace during official visits and tours.
Her charitable portfolio also includes:
- Save the Children UK, where she served as President for over 40 years before becoming Patron in 2016.
- Riding for the Disabled Association, reflecting her lifelong passion for equestrianism.
- Carers Trust, supporting unpaid carers across the UK.
International Engagements
In 2025 alone, Princess Anne has already undertaken multiple international trips, representing the UK in countries such as Ireland, South Africa, Barbados, and Belgium.
These visits often focus on strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties, attending commemorations, and supporting local projects connected to her patronages. Her overseas work continues to reinforce the Royal Family’s global presence and its commitment to fostering international goodwill.
A Practical Approach to Royal Life
Princess Anne is known for her no-nonsense style and preference for practicality over ceremony. She is often described by royal correspondents as one of the most efficient members of the family, favoring substance over formality.
Even on personal milestones, such as birthdays, she tends to avoid large-scale celebrations. In interviews, royal journalists like Roya Nikkah have noted her policy of marking birthdays ending in “0” with official events, but avoiding elaborate arrangements for others. This year, in line with that tradition, her 75th birthday will be marked with working engagements rather than public festivities.
Relationship with King Charles III
As the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Princess Anne has worked closely with her brother, King Charles III, throughout their lives. Her role has been described by palace aides as that of a “trusted adviser” who is unafraid to voice her opinions.
Her reliability and consistency have been particularly important during recent years of change within the monarchy, including the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, the accession of King Charles, and the evolving public roles of younger royals.

Military Service and Associations
Princess Anne holds multiple honorary military titles and has long championed the armed forces. She is Colonel-in-Chief of several regiments and corps across the UK and Commonwealth, including the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and the Royal Canadian Hussars.
Her connection to the military is also personal; she has often expressed admiration for the discipline and dedication of service members, values that mirror her own approach to royal duties.
Work Ethic Compared to Prince Philip
Observers have often compared Princess Anne’s work ethic to that of her late father, Prince Philip, who remained active in public life until the age of 96. Like her father, Anne maintains a schedule that reflects stamina and commitment well beyond what might be expected at her age.
Her ability to sustain this pace has earned her admiration from both colleagues and the public. Former aides have noted her preference for walking between venues when possible, her avoidance of unnecessary breaks, and her detailed preparation for every engagement.
Public Perception
Public opinion polls consistently place Princess Anne among the most respected members of the Royal Family. She is often cited as an example of dedication, humility, and efficiency, avoiding personal scandal and maintaining a strong focus on duty.
Her reputation as a “no-frills” royal who gets the job done has made her a popular figure with those who value continuity and service over celebrity.
Looking Ahead
While some senior royals reduce their workload as they reach milestone ages, Princess Anne has indicated she intends to maintain her full schedule for the foreseeable future. Based on her current pace and past statements, she is expected to remain a central figure in the monarchy’s public work for many years.
Her ongoing service ensures that she will continue to represent the Crown both at home and abroad, upholding traditions while also adapting to the needs of a modern constitutional monarchy.
Conclusion
At 75, Princess Anne continues to set the standard for royal service — combining tradition, dedication, and a practical approach that has earned her widespread respect. Her work across hundreds of patronages, her high engagement count, and her steadfast presence alongside King Charles III ensure her influence remains strong within the Royal Family.
In an era of evolving expectations for public figures, the Princess Royal’s consistent, grounded style offers both stability and inspiration. For the monarchy, her commitment is not just a testament to her personal values, but also a reminder of the enduring importance of service at the heart of royal life.
