RF. Donald Trump Gives a Speech During a State Banquet While on His Visit to the UK

It was meant to be a night of pageantry and poise, but behind the royal smiles, tensions quietly simmered as President Donald Trump faced a roomful of British royalty at Windsor Castle. Some netizens praised his speech. Others fixated on what he left out and how the royals reacted.

President Donald Trump delivered a ceremonial address during a state banquet at St George’s Hall inside Windsor Castle on the evening of Wednesday, September 17, in front of a crowd of 160 guests.

Standing before King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate, the U.S. leader veered between soaring historical rhetoric and gushing personal praise.

In his toast, Trump extended gratitude to the hosts, calling the invitation “one of the highest honors of my life.” He declared, “Your Majesty, Melania, and I are deeply grateful to you and Queen Camila for your extraordinary graciousness. And to William and Kate, thank you so much. It’s been so great being with you today. Thank you very much. Appreciate it.”

The President shifted focus to King Charles III’s environmental and cultural efforts, crediting him with restoring Britain’s natural beauty and defending its heritage.

“He’s dedicated himself to preserving the glory and unique character of this kingdom, restoring life to the rivers and streams, supporting the works of its artists and composers, planting trees and gardens in its countryside,” Trump said with dramatic flourish.

He then recounted Charles’s remarkable attention to individuals, describing how the King had greeted nearly 150 people by name earlier in the day.

“Some of them had bad names like XYZ-Q3, and he knew every one of them, or at least I think he did, because nobody was complaining,” he quipped in a moment that left many uncertain whether to laugh or wince.

Toward the speech’s conclusion, Trump praised Charles’s lifelong commitment to national pride, referencing a powerful letter the monarch wrote in 1993. The then-prince had stated that he was “entirely motivated by a desperate desire to put the great back into Great Britain.”

“In the finest tradition of British sovereigns, he has given his whole heart, everything he’s got to those parts of Britain that are beyond the realm of mere legislation,” Trump declared. “It’s not easy, but which defines its essence and its virtue, its harmony, and its soul. It’s an amazing calling, and there’s nobody that’s answered that calling like you have.”

The President then turned philosophical, invoking the global power of British culture. “A fifth of all humanity speaks, writes, thinks, and prays in the language born on these isles and perfected in the pages of Shakespeare and Dickens and Tolkien, Lewis, Orwell, and Kipling,” he said, pausing for effect, as the camera lingered on Queen Camilla.

He added more historical weight, lauding Britain for giving the world “the Magna Carter, the modern parliament, and Francis Bacon’s scientific method,” before listing towering intellectual figures: “Locke, Hobbes, Smith, Burke, Newton, and Blackstone.”

With a flourish, he connected this legacy directly to the U.S. “The British Empire laid the foundations of law, liberty, free speech, and individual rights virtually everywhere the Union Jack has ever flown, including a place called America. You know that place very well, don’t you?” he posed.

Trump shifted to the “special relationship” between the two nations. “We’re joined by history and fate, by love and language, and by transcendent ties of culture, tradition, ancestry, and destiny,” he said. “We’re like two notes in one chord or two verses of the same poem, each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together.”

In closing, Trump lifted his glass and declared, “On behalf of all Americans, I offer a toast to one of the great friendships, to two great countries, and to His Majesty, King Charles III, a very, very special man and also a very, very special queen. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. It’s a great honor to be with you.”

The President lavished compliments on Prince William, declaring, “But I just want to say that His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son and His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales. Really amazing. We’ve gotten to know you, and I think you’re going to have an unbelievable success in the future.”

He then turned to the Princess of Wales, offering glowing praise that caught many off guard. The POTUS stated, “Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness Princess Katherine so radiant and so healthy, so beautiful. It’s a really great honor.”

According to body language expert Judi James, the King’s behavior seemed to signal warmth — despite protocol stumbles. She told the Daily Mail, “He’s seen peering through an open balcony door like an anxious parent, propping it with one hand as he waits impatiently for Trump’s helicopter to land.”

She noted how, in his excitement to greet Trump, Charles forgot the other guests, including the Queen and First Lady. “Charles walked Trump over to meet his private secretary, unintentionally leaving both the Queen and the First Lady standing behind,” James noted.

It was Queen Camilla who saved the moment, tapping Charles on the arm in what James called “an almost unprecedented public correction gesture.”

Following the gentle nudge, Charles adjusted, expanding his stance to include everyone, while Camilla ushered Melania Trump into the group for a round of formal introductions.

James noted that the King’s body language suggested warmth and deference, even breaking from traditional decorum. “The King’s response to this very familiar-looking greeting ritual suggests approval despite the way that it bends the rules in terms of traditional protocol,” she said.

“He’s lowered his head in an act of ‘submission’ here, and the crinkling around his eye suggests he is beaming with pleasure,” added the body language expert. “He also has one hand behind his back, all of which would suggest there’s no air of regal haughtiness here as he is ‘love-bombed’ by the President.”

Another body language expert, Inbaal Honigman, offered a different take. She told LADbible that King Charles looked “clearly uneasy” at moments throughout the visit. She pointed to a protocol misstep during the troop inspection.

“The Monarch smooths his tie down, which can signify nervousness. He’s not sure what to do now. He’s faced with two options — to correct Trump and potentially embarrass him, or to go along with what is potentially a break in protocol,” Honigman noted.

She added that Trump seemed “entirely oblivious,” while Charles “shifted his weight from side to side” in visible discomfort. But the King recovered quickly, placing a reassuring hand on Trump’s back. “At the end of their stroll, Charles places a friendly hand on Trump’s back once or twice more, putting him at his ease,” she concluded.

Earlier that same day, Prince William introduced the President to his father outside Victoria House, saying simply, “This is my father.” Charles waved, then stood beside Queen Camilla.

The two leaders shook hands, with Trump placing a hand on Charles’s arm in a brief but noticeable moment of warmth before the families proceeded on a carriage procession through Windsor Estate.

Despite the glittering formalities and tightly choreographed moments, it was the subtle gestures, awkward interactions, and raw expressions that stole the spotlight — and the internet’s attention — long after the final toast was raised.
