On December 6, 2024, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, held her fourth annual Royal Carols: Together at Christmas at Westminster Abbey in London.
She first hosted this concert in 2021, even playing the piano as a tribute to those who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following year, 2022, the concert was dedicated to the memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The concert aired at 7:30 p.m. U.K. time on Christmas Eve, December 24, on ITV.
Kate Middleton attended the event with her husband, Prince William, and her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
“Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. It is a time for presents, tinsel and mince pies, but it’s also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all. It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness, so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about,” the princess said before the service.
She added: “The Christmas story encourages us to consider the experiences and feelings of others. It also reflects our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy, as well as just how much we need each other in spite of our differences.”
During the concert, many noticed the exchange between Kate Middleton and her younger son, Prince Louis, who is known for doing goofy things in public, which is normal considering his young age.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling tried to capture the words the young prince told his mother in a clip that was shared online, showing Kate looking down at him and smiling. According to Hickling, Louis told his mom, “We’re looking out for each other.”
Kate Middleton, who had underwent an abdominal surgery back in January of last year and was diagnosed with cancer, announced in September that she is cancer free.
The news was accepted with delight by her many fans.
A Royal Tradition: Kate Middleton’s Christmas Celebration
On December 6, 2024, Westminster Abbey once again became the heart of a cherished tradition as Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, hosted the fourth annual Royal Carols: Together at Christmas. This much-anticipated event, initiated in 2021, continues to be a testament to the spirit of togetherness, reflection, and festive cheer.
A Royal Legacy of Music and Meaning
The inaugural Together at Christmas concert in 2021 was deeply moving, as Kate played the piano in honor of those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic—a heartfelt gesture that resonated with viewers worldwide. The following year, the event was dedicated to the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, a poignant reminder of the late monarch’s enduring influence on the royal family and the nation.
This year, the concert aired on ITV at 7:30 p.m. U.K. time on Christmas Eve, capturing the hearts of millions as the royal family gathered to celebrate the season of giving and gratitude.
The Royal Family in Attendance
Kate Middleton attended the concert with her husband, Prince William, and their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and the ever-energetic Prince Louis. The family’s presence underscored the importance of unity and love during the festive season.
Prince Louis, known for his playful antics at public events, once again charmed viewers with his youthful exuberance. A brief exchange between the young prince and his mother caught attention online. According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, Louis turned to Kate during the service and said sweetly, “We’re looking out for each other.” This tender moment perfectly encapsulated the concert’s theme of community and empathy.
A Message from the Princess
Before the service began, Kate Middleton shared her thoughts on the meaning of Christmas.
“Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. It is a time for presents, tinsel, and mince pies, but it’s also a time to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all. It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness, and forgiveness—so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about.”
She continued, highlighting the enduring relevance of the holiday season:
“The Christmas story encourages us to consider the experiences and feelings of others. It also reflects our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy, as well as just how much we need each other in spite of our differences.”
A Triumph Over Adversity
This year’s concert also carried a personal milestone for Kate Middleton. In January, the Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery and was later diagnosed with cancer. Her announcement in September that she is now cancer-free was met with widespread relief and celebration. The princess’s resilience and grace throughout her health journey have only deepened the admiration she receives from people around the world.
A Celebration of Togetherness
As the carols echoed through Westminster Abbey, the event served as a beautiful reminder of the true essence of Christmas: compassion, reflection, and unity. Through music and heartfelt words, the Royal Carols: Together at Christmas continues to be a beacon of hope and joy during the holiday season.
