As Halloween arrives, the Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly enjoying the holiday in their own warm and down-to-earth way. While royal duties often fill their calendars, this October 31 is special — Prince William and Princess Kate are spending time at home in Windsor with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The Wales family, known for their balance between royal life and family tradition, are celebrating the spooky season with a mix of festive fun, creative costumes, and classic Halloween activities.
A Cozy Halloween at Home
This year, Halloween falls during the children’s half-term break from Lambrook School, giving the family a perfect opportunity to relax and spend quality time together.
According to past accounts from royal watchers and British media, the children — George, 12, Charlotte, 10, and Louis, 7 — have always enjoyed celebrating Halloween in charmingly normal ways. From pumpkin decorating to trick-or-treating, the family embraces the holiday like many others across the UK.
In 2023, Hello! magazine shared a now-famous photo of the Princess of Wales out trick-or-treating with her children. The image reportedly showed Kate and her little ones outside a neighborhood gate, with autumn leaves scattered on the ground — a moment that delighted royal fans who admire the family’s grounded approach to parenting.
Trick-or-Treating Like Every Other Family
Royal fans were particularly touched when Kate Middleton, dressed casually, was spotted accompanying her children door-to-door in London. Neighbor Jay Rutland, who shared the photo online, described the moment as proof of how “down-to-earth” the Prince and Princess of Wales truly are.
He added that Kate carried a small bag — possibly for the children’s candy — as the family enjoyed a relaxed and joyful evening together. The sight of the future Queen Consort spending time with her children in such a relatable way quickly went viral and drew widespread admiration.
Shopping for Halloween Costumes
Kate’s love for Halloween isn’t new. Back in 2019, several British news outlets, including The Mirror and Hello!, reported that she was seen shopping for costumes with Prince George and Princess Charlotte at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Norfolk, near their countryside home, Anmer Hall.
Local shopper Kathy Whittaker later told reporters that she spotted Kate browsing through the Halloween aisle and chatting warmly with other parents about their children’s costumes. Although it’s unclear exactly what the princess purchased, it’s clear that she wanted her kids to enjoy the same festive excitement as any other family.
A Family Tradition with a Personal Touch
Halloween celebrations have gradually become part of the Middleton family’s autumn traditions. Kate’s mother, Carole Middleton, has often spoken about her love for the holiday.
In a 2022 Instagram post for her company Party Pieces, Carole wrote that Halloween had always been “an autumn highlight” for her, recalling the fun of dressing up, carving pumpkins, and trick-or-treating with family and friends.
She even mentioned growing her own pumpkins that year and looked forward to decorating them with loved ones — a sweet reminder that family-centered traditions continue across generations in the Middleton household.
Balancing Royal Duties and Family Life
While much of the royal family’s public life is defined by official engagements, Prince William and Princess Kate are known for prioritizing their children’s upbringing. Both have expressed their desire to provide a stable, hands-on family environment despite their royal responsibilities.
At public events, the Wales children are often seen displaying their close family bond. In June 2025, the three young royals — George, Charlotte, and Louis — appeared alongside their parents at the annual Trooping the Colour celebration in London. The siblings, dressed smartly for the occasion, waved to the crowds with bright smiles that mirrored the warmth of their family life.
Prince George: The Responsible Big Brother
Now 12 years old, Prince George is said to take his role as big brother seriously. In a special birthday video shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales on Instagram, George was seen playing and laughing with Charlotte and Louis, highlighting their affectionate sibling relationship.
While he’s growing into his responsibilities as future heir, George still enjoys the same things most children his age do — including dressing up for Halloween and spending time outdoors with family and friends.
Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis: Full of Energy and Creativity
Princess Charlotte, known for her confidence and charm at public events, reportedly enjoys creative activities like arts and crafts — perfect for Halloween decorating and pumpkin carving.
Meanwhile, Prince Louis, the youngest of the trio, is known for his playful personality. His cheerful energy often steals the spotlight during family appearances, and it’s easy to imagine him enthusiastically joining in on trick-or-treating or costume fun.
Celebrating Simply and Sweetly
Although the Wales family’s Halloween plans are private, royal commentators suggest that the family prefers to celebrate quietly at home in Windsor. Activities such as pumpkin carving, watching family-friendly films, and baking seasonal treats are all likely part of the evening’s festivities.
Unlike large public events, these simple traditions help the family stay connected and allow the children to experience a normal childhood away from the public eye.
Royal insiders have long noted that William and Kate make an effort to create a warm, balanced environment for their children — something that continues to resonate deeply with the public.
Family Values at the Heart of Every Celebration
Beyond Halloween, the Prince and Princess of Wales have emphasized values such as kindness, gratitude, and community service in their family life.
Through initiatives like the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, Kate has focused on the importance of emotional development and family relationships. William, meanwhile, has championed mental health awareness and environmental protection, showing their children the importance of compassion and responsibility.
These same values often shine through in how they celebrate holidays — focusing on togetherness, fun, and appreciation rather than extravagance.
A Royal Family Rooted in Everyday Joy
Halloween for the Wales family isn’t about glamour or royal grandeur — it’s about making memories together. Whether trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, carving pumpkins, or simply spending time as a family, William and Kate continue to show that their lives, though extraordinary in public, are wonderfully ordinary at home.
As the children grow older, their parents’ commitment to giving them a grounded upbringing continues to win admiration from people around the world.
