RF. Prince Harry Spotted Solo at TIME100 Sports Gala in NYC — And His Demeanor Had People Talking

Prince Harry walked the red carpet at the TIME100 Sports Gala, and newly shared videos had viewers closely watching everything from his smile to his body language.

While red carpet events often see guests arrive with a companion, the Duke of Sussex attended the New York gala on his own. As the videos spread, viewers offered very different opinions about what they believed his demeanor revealed.

Videos shared by WWD and E! News show the Duke of Sussex arriving at Pier 60 for the TIME100 Sports Gala on July 16, 2026, without Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Harry wore a navy suit with a white open-collar shirt and polished black dress shoes as he made his way through the photo line. He began by posing with his hands loosely clasped in front of him before turning from side to side for photographers.

As cameras continued flashing, he smiled, briefly waved toward someone off-camera, and stopped several times to acknowledge photographers and guests.

According to People, photographers repeatedly called out to Harry to get his attention, with one heard saying, “Mr. Duke of Sussex, Sir.” Another encouraged him to look toward a colleague, telling him, “She’s the best!”

Harry appeared relaxed throughout the exchange. After chatting with photographers and laughing during one interaction, he responded with a smile, “You are the most polite set of photographers I’ve ever met in my life.”

The photographers thanked him before Harry gave them a thumbs-up, pointed toward someone off-camera, smiled once more, and continued inside the venue.

Images from the gala capture similar moments, showing Harry smiling while posing against a backdrop featuring TIME100 Sports branding alongside sponsors including Target, Toyota, Salesforce, JPMorgan, and The Macallan.

After thanking the photographers, Harry gave them a thumbs-up before continuing inside the venue.

The Duke of Sussex attended the gala as one of the evening’s five featured speakers.

He joined New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson, two-time Olympic gold medalist figure skater Alysa Liu, former U.S. women’s soccer player Alex Morgan, and NBA star LeBron James, who each delivered toasts highlighting the power of sports and their impact beyond competition.

During a toast, he reflected on how attending the 2013 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs inspired him to launch the Invictus Games the following year, creating an international sporting competition for wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans.

Recalling that experience, Harry said he came to see sport as a powerful tool for recovery beyond physical rehabilitation.

“In the arena, sport wasn’t simply rebuilding strength—it was restoring confidence, purpose, identity, and connection,” he said. “That’s when I realized something profound: sport isn’t just entertainment and competition—sport is medicine. It reaches places that surgery cannot, therapies sometimes struggle to, and words often never will.”

Harry explained that sport does more than improve physical fitness. He said it helps people regain confidence, stay mentally focused, and believe they can overcome challenges that once seemed impossible.

He also noted that its benefits extend to families, helping them heal alongside their loved ones, and said the recovery and growth that follow adversity can be more meaningful than the setback itself.

He said the Invictus Games have since grown to include hundreds of competitors from 26 nations, proving that sport can restore confidence as well as create champions.

“Every one of us in this room knows that sport can produce champions,” Harry said. “But perhaps that’s not the greatest achievement at all—it’s helping people believe they still have a future.”

Harry closed by recognizing two Invictus Games competitors attending the gala, saying they embodied “resilience, leadership, and an enduring commitment to their communities and to their country.” He ended his toast by reflecting on what he believes is sport’s lasting impact.

“That is the ultimate power of sport: It brings us back to ourselves,” he said. “Long after the medals are won and the records are broken and the crowds have gone home, what remains isn’t the scoreboard; it is the person sport helps us become.”

Harry’s Video Prompted a Wide Range of Reactions

The video quickly drew attention on Instagram, where viewers offered sharply different takes on Harry’s solo appearance.

One user wrote, “Finally alone without the claw pulling it away or pulling it away,” expressing a critical personal opinion about the Duke’s appearance without his wife.

Another commenter had a much more positive interpretation, writing, “As always looking happy, relaxed well done Prince Harry your life in freedom with the love of a good wife and children shows ❤️.”

Not everyone agreed with that assessment. A different viewer commented, “That was a mask slip ..!!!!”

Meghan’s absence also became part of the discussion. One commenter speculated, “Megan must be beside herself that she’s not the center of attention.” The remark reflected the user’s personal opinion rather than any confirmed information.

A second Instagram post generated another round of reactions. One user simply wrote, “He looks genuinely happy,” while another praised him with the comment, “Best Prince Ever🔥🙌 Good King Harry 🔥.”

One commenter joked about Prince Harry, “He sprayed his head!” while another briefly wrote, “Hairless,” referencing his hair. Someone else speculated, “Oh he’s going to be in trouble with Meghan. He’s not allowed to have all that publicity without her.”

While Harry Walked the Red Carpet, Meghan Celebrated Different News

While Harry’s appearance at the TIME100 Sports Gala fueled discussion online, Meghan was marking a milestone of her own from California.

Shortly before the New York event, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that her Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” had earned an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lifestyle Series category. Rather than focusing on the recognition herself, she used Instagram to congratulate the people behind the production.

“A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on With Love, Meghan on @netflix. We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!” she wrote in her post.

The Couple’s Recent Schedule Shows a Growing Pattern

Harry’s appearance at the TIME100 Sports Gala continued a series of solo public outings that both he and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have made throughout 2026.

One of the earliest examples came in February, when Meghan attended the Fifteen Percent Pledge Fundraising Gala in Los Angeles without Harry, as reported by Page Six.

The Duchess wore a custom oyster-colored gown designed by Charles Harbison while supporting the nonprofit founded by Aurora James, which encourages retailers to dedicate at least 15 percent of their shelf space to Black-owned businesses.

On May 27, he attended chef José Andrés’ cookbook release celebration at San Laurel, the chef’s restaurant inside the Conrad Los Angeles.

According to People, the event celebrated the publication of “Spain My Way: Eat, Drink, and Cook Like a Spaniard” and brought together guests including Maria Shriver, Kyra Sedgwick, Wolfgang Puck, Tyler James Williams, and Roy Choi.

Harry’s attendance reflected a friendship that extends beyond social events. World Central Kitchen became the first partner of Archewell Philanthropies after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal roles in 2020, and the couple later worked alongside the organization during California wildfire relief efforts.

Speaking to the same publication about the Duke and Duchess earlier this year, Andrés said, “I mean, listen, I consider them friends.” He continued, “I know they are in the spotlight — not just in America, but in Britain — and what I can tell you from what I know is that they don’t have to, but they decide to do it.”

Less than three weeks later, Harry attended Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

According to Town & Country, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver invited the Duke after he participated in the Warrior Games in San Antonio, the adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill, and injured service members that inspired the Invictus Games.

Reporters filmed Harry arriving at Frost Bank Center in a black polo shirt and a Santa Barbara Fire Department baseball cap before taking his seat for the championship matchup.

Another Solo Trip Soon Drew Attention for a Different Reason

Harry’s string of solo appearances continued in early July when he traveled to the United Kingdom for a series of charity engagements. Before the visit began, however, attention shifted from his schedule to who would — and would not — be joining him.

People reported on July 4 that Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, would not accompany Harry to London. At the time, the decision was linked to the family’s ongoing concerns about security arrangements during visits to Britain, an issue Harry has repeatedly said affects whether Meghan and their children can travel there.

In a statement shared with the publication, a spokesperson for the Duke said, “The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit.”

While King Charles III had offered accommodations on a royal estate, the proposed security arrangements would not extend beyond the property. The spokesperson added that Harry continued to explore “every available option” that would allow his children to visit the U.K. safely.

The report came more than a year after Harry told the BBC that he could not “see a world” in which he would bring Meghan and their children back to Britain under the existing security arrangements, adding that it was “really quite sad” that he could not show his children the country where he grew up.

“You know I love my country, I always have done despite what some people in the country have done,” he said at the time.

Despite those concerns, Harry traveled to Britain as planned. His itinerary included appearances supporting WellChild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers, along with events marking the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

The Visit Took an Unexpected Turn Days Later

According to the BBC on July 11, the prince’s U.K. itinerary changed when Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles and Queen Camilla had welcomed Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

The Palace described the gathering as a “private family occasion,” offering few additional details about the meeting. However, the visit marked a significant moment for the royal family.

It was the first time Charles had seen his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, in person in more than four years. The reunion also represented the first time Harry and Meghan had traveled to the U.K. together since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.

Although the family reunited privately at Highgrove, Harry’s public schedule remained unchanged. He continued attending his planned charity engagements on his own, while Meghan and the children stayed out of the public eye.

The media outlet also reported that Prince William was taking part in a charity polo match in Windsor on the same day as the Highgrove gathering, and there were no plans for the brothers to meet during Harry’s visit.
