Kate Middleton‘s family has shared an update on her cancer just weeks after the Princess of Wales made an emotional confession.
Over the past two years, Kate has spoken candidly about one of the most difficult chapters of her life, while gradually returning to public duties after completing cancer treatment.
Now, in a rare personal tribute, her younger brother James Middleton has given royal fans a glimpse into just how far she has come.
The heartfelt message comes after Kate previously admitted that although she is now in remission, cancer has permanently changed her both physically and emotionally.
Kate’s cancer diagnosis shocked the world
The Princess of Wales revealed in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer following major abdominal surgery.
At the time, she explained that doctors had initially believed her condition was non-cancerous before post-operative tests revealed cancer had been present.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” Kate said in a video message.
“The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”
She subsequently underwent preventative chemotherapy and stepped away from royal duties to focus entirely on her treatment and recovery.
The announcement ended months of intense public speculation surrounding her absence from public life and prompted an outpouring of support from around the world.
During the same period, King Charles III also announced his own cancer diagnosis, making it an exceptionally challenging time for the Royal Family.
Prince William later described that period as one of the hardest experiences of his life as he balanced caring for both his wife and father while continuing his royal responsibilities.
Returning to public life
Kate confirmed she had completed chemotherapy in September 2024 before announcing in January 2025 that she was officially in remission.
“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” she said.
“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal.”
Rather than immediately returning to a full schedule of engagements, the Princess has eased back into public life gradually, with palace sources repeatedly emphasizing that she has been following medical advice and listening to her body.
Former royal spokeswoman Ailsa Anderson previously told People that Kate was ‘being sensible’ by taking a measured approach to returning to work.
Kate’s heartbreaking confession
Although her recovery has allowed her to resume more public engagements, Kate recently revealed that life after cancer is far from straightforward.
During a visit to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, the Princess spoke candidly with patients about the reality of recovery after treatment.
She explained that many people assume life quickly returns to normal once treatment ends, but said that has not reflected her own experience.
“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” Kate explained.
“Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”
She also admitted that cancer continues to affect every aspect of her life.
“It changes your perspective,” she said. “It’s hard for the loved ones.”
The Princess went on to describe the profound impact treatment has had on both her body and mind.
“Your body changes so much, not just physically, emotionally, but the deeper side of ourselves,” she explained. “It puts so much in perspective and you hold onto what’s important.”
She added: “Cancer changes you in so many ways, emotionally and physiologically, too. It changes you in mind, body, and spirit.”
Her comments resonated with countless cancer survivors, many of whom praised the Princess for speaking honestly about the long-term reality of recovery after treatment ends.
A mountain with special meaning
Despite acknowledging the physical and emotional challenges she continues to face, Kate recently achieved something deeply symbolic.
The Princess completed a Three Peaks Challenge in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, an organization that has played an important role throughout her cancer journey.
The challenge held particular significance because the Royal Marsden was involved in her treatment, and the event aimed to raise both awareness and funds for cancer patients.
The demanding climb also represented a personal milestone following months of treatment and recovery.
Now, her brother has shared an emotional tribute revealing that conquering the mountain had been a goal they discussed long before it became reality.
James Middleton took to Instagram to congratulate his sister with an unusually personal message.
Alongside a photograph from the challenge, he wrote: “I’m so incredibly proud of my darling sister.”
He then revealed that the idea of climbing together had first been discussed while Kate was still undergoing treatment.
“Two years ago, I told you we’d climb this mountain together,” he wrote.
“We talked about climbing mountains while you were in hospital, and about the incredible healing power that nature can have for both the body and the mind.”
James explained that joining Kate on the Three Peaks Challenge had been a privilege.
“So it was such an honour to join you for your Three Peaks Challenge for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.”
His tribute continued with a heartfelt reflection on how far his sister has come since her diagnosis.
“Seeing how far you’ve come is nothing short of inspiring. Your strength, resilience, and determination, all while being the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, and sister, inspire me and so many others every single day.”
He concluded his message with a simple but emotional statement: “Keep being exactly who you are.”
Fans praise the siblings’ bond
The post quickly attracted thousands of supportive messages from royal fans, with many praising both Kate’s resilience and the close relationship she shares with her brother.
Hello! magazine commented beneath the post: “What a beautiful message. Congratulations to both of you!”
The Royal Marsden commented: “We couldn’t agree more! We’re incredibly grateful that Her Royal Highness is Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, and that the both of you are supporting The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.”
Kate herself acknowledged the touching tribute with three red heart emojis, while fans flooded the comments with support.
“Such a powerful tribute. Catherine’s courage and determination are truly inspiring,” one person wrote. Another added: “We are all so proud of her.”
Others praised James for standing beside his sister throughout her recovery, with one commenting: “The love between you two is visible and it’s clear you can always count on each other.”
Another fan reflected: “She is so loved. Such a role model for so many. I’m crying now, thanks James.”
While TV presenter Julia Bradbury, who has also spoken publicly about her own cancer journey, wrote: “So great that your sister has discovered the power of nature and the outdoors. Has maintained my life and saved it after a cancer diagnosis too.”
Many supporters described James’ tribute as one of the most touching public messages the Princess has received since revealing her diagnosis.
For many, it also offered a reminder of how significant the mountain challenge really was.
After recently admitting that cancer continues to affect her ‘mind, body and spirit,’ standing at the summit alongside her brother represented far more than simply completing a hike.
Instead, it marked the fulfilment of a promise first made during one of the darkest moments of her life: a symbol of just how far she has come since those difficult days in hospital.
