RF. Meghan Markle’s Body Language with First Husband vs. Harry – Expert Reveals

A body language expert breaks down Meghan Markle’s striking shift in relationship dynamics, revealing what changed between her first marriage and her life with Prince Harry.

Judi James, a top-tier analyst of nonverbal behavior, has lifted the curtain on how Meghan’s demeanor, presence, and posture have radically transformed—revealing two starkly different versions of the Duchess.

By poring over old photos from her time with Trevor Engelson, Meghan’s former husband and Hollywood producer, and comparing them to polished recent appearances with Prince Harry, Judi uncovered a striking, deliberate evolution — one that repositions Meghan from silent accessory to leading lady.

“Her whole presentation and ‘brand’ as a wife seems to have changed,” Judi stated, describing a noticeable shift that traded subdued support for active leadership. In earlier photos with Trevor, Meghan frequently appears slightly off to the side, smiling demurely in traditional couple poses.

Group photos paint an even clearer picture: Trevor is usually seen interacting confidently with others, while Meghan lingers at the edges, posing with female friends or hovering just outside the social action.

Even when photographed side by side, Judi noted a lack of synchronicity between them. Though close in proximity, their body language suggested little shared rhythm or emotional resonance.

Photos from glitzy events like a 2011 awards dinner reveal a startling contrast. Trevor adopts a classic power stance — chest out, feet planted, one hand buried in his pocket — while Meghan flashes a tight, polished smile.

Her expression? According to Judi, it mirrored that of a beauty pageant contestant, polished but restrained, a far cry from the effortless charm and warmth she would later radiate beside Harry.

Fast-forward to Meghan’s life with Prince Harry, and the contrast is nothing short of seismic. Judi says Meghan has undergone a complete role reversal, now stepping confidently into a position that radiates ownership, pride, and poise.

Meghan is often seen clasping Harry’s hand in both of hers, or directing their connection with intentional, showy gestures. “She is determined to use display signals to show off not just their love for each other but also to show herself as being in charge in terms of those displays,” she emphasized.

That power dynamic becomes especially visible during formal public appearances, where Meghan frequently positions herself slightly in front of Harry.

Meanwhile, Harry often walks just behind, reinforcing the shift in visual hierarchy. One bold example? Meghan kisses Harry in full view of the crowd, her hands cupping his face as she initiates the moment.

Judi insists this isn’t about overshadowing, but about owning the narrative — a declaration of closeness, command, and mutual trust. She observed:

Even in quieter moments, Meghan sends unmistakable messages of leadership through subtle gestures. “Sitting in seats in the audience, we can see Meghan sitting to the front of the photo with her hand on Harry’s thigh in a gesture of ownership,” Judi pointed out.

And it’s not just body language — Meghan’s verbal cues now center Harry in a way that flips their early dynamic completely. She often refers to Harry as her “beau” or “fox,” and as Judi observed, the focus is “on his looks rather than hers.”

It’s another piece of the puzzle that paints Meghan as a woman who is no longer the subject of admiration but rather the author of the narrative.

These bold new signals mirror the arc of the couple’s entire love story. In May 2025, Meghan and Harry celebrated six years of marriage, having tied the knot in a rule-breaking 2018 wedding that stunned royal watchers worldwide.

With nearly two billion people tuning in, the event was dubbed a “mini-revolution.” Even the wedding invitations raised eyebrows, referring to her as “Ms. Meghan Markle” rather than the more customary “Miss,” a subtle acknowledgment of her identity as a divorced, self-made woman.

When viewed through Judi’s lens, Meghan’s physical presence in her marriage to Harry tells a much larger story — one of empowerment, strategy, and a carefully curated love story.

And while the world sees curated glimpses of the couple’s bond, their real power lies behind the gates of their Montecito estate, where Meghan and Harry are raising their family with a focus on privacy, intention, and quiet leadership.

This stunning collection of intimate images opens the door to the couple’s private world in Montecito, offering a tender glimpse into life with their two children.

Behind the gates of their sprawling Montecito estate, Harry and Meghan are raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in a world deliberately designed to be calm, safe, and deeply personal.

In rare and tender glimpses, the couple has offered the public precious windows into life at home — a life Meghan says she once only dreamed about.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has often spoken about how deeply she cherishes being a mother to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

During a panel on women in leadership in May 2024, she opened up with striking candor, reflecting on how motherhood has transformed her:

She repeated the sentiment with heartfelt conviction, “I love being a mom, I love being a mom.”

Though the Sussexes’ $14 million home is often pictured as a sunlit sanctuary, they remain intensely protective of what lies beyond the front door.

In August 2024, a close friend revealed to PEOPLE just how fiercely Prince Harry guards his children’s security, saying, “Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats.”

“He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm,” the friend continued.

They also emphasized that the prince hopes his children can live as normal a life as possible — one untouched by the fear and intrusion he’s known all too well.

Royal editor Matt Wilkinson touched on the emotional toll, explaining, “My understanding of this is that up to a certain stage, Harry would much rather his children were not seen. He doesn’t want them to be papped. He’s got this idea that if he takes them outside of Montecito, that there is a hoard of us out there trying to take photos of his kids.”

The royal editor added pointedly, “Harry is probably not overly happy” about the ongoing scrutiny.

Yet amid the firm boundaries, Meghan and Prince Harry have shared just enough on their social media to remind the world that their little ones are growing and deeply loved.

At the 2024 WellChild Awards, the Prince offered a charming peek into their home life, revealing his children may have inherited their mother’s signature tresses.

“Archie and Lili have been blessed with their mother’s thick hair,” he shared. He’s also spoken about the connection he sees between his children and the beloved parent he lost too soon.

During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” the duke admitted, “The Spencer gene is very, very strong,” adding that he sees Diana, Princess of Wales, in both Archie and Lilibet.

Meanwhile, Meghan has taken to preserving their family’s everyday magic in a touching, digital way. In her April 2025 podcast debut, she revealed:

However, it’s not just quiet love that fills their home — there’s also learning, work, and purpose. In June 2025, Meghan described how daily gardening with the children is more than play — it’s a hands-on way to teach values.

“It teaches them patience, teaches them to value and appreciate their food,” she shared. The duchess also emphasized that their garden serves as a classroom in more ways than one — from growing and harvesting to sharing their produce within the local community.

She further underscored her desire for Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to grow up with gratitude and awareness, even within privilege.

“So, really starting to understand as they’re learning counting and numbers and all of those things, that there’s a cost and a price for things,” she stated.

“And I think that’s key for children to understand that, especially children who are very lucky to have a home that has privilege. You need to know that, just like manners, and taking care of the things around you, there is a value on things,” the duchess continued.

Together, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have built a life centered on protection, purpose, and presence — quietly raising Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet away from the spotlight, but with intention and love at every turn.
