Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has remained a prominent public figure since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. While much attention continues to follow his personal life, his focus on family, public service, and his children’s heritage remains a core part of his public identity.
Life After Stepping Back from Royal Duties
In January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, announced their decision to step back as senior working members of the British Royal Family. The decision was confirmed by Buckingham Palace and resulted in the couple relocating to California, where they have focused on their nonprofit and media work under the Archewell Foundation.
Since then, Prince Harry has returned to the United Kingdom on a few select occasions, including:
- Prince Philip’s funeral in 2021
- Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022
- Appearances related to the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014
These visits have largely been solo appearances, with Meghan and their children, Archie Harrison and Princess Lilibet, remaining in the United States.
Security and Public Appearances
Prince Harry has publicly addressed his concerns about family security in the UK. In interviews and legal filings, he has highlighted the challenges of ensuring protection for his wife and children during international travel. As of 2025, there has been no official confirmation of a joint visit to the UK by Prince Harry and Archie.
In an interview, Harry said:
“I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point,”
— referencing ongoing legal disputes over the availability of security support.
