The kitten, later named Halo, had been brought in by someone claiming to have “found” her at a local park.
But the truth behind her story was far more disturbing.
Halo’s head tilt, unsteady walk, and frightened demeanor immediately made it clear that something wasn’t right.
The shelter workers suspected she might have neurological issues, but with limited medical resources, they knew her time was running out.
Unless a rescue group stepped in, Halo would be euthanized within hours.
That’s when Sarah Richardson, rescue coordinator for Community Cats of Central Arkansas, got a call that changed everything.
“I was told there was a kitten at risk of euthanasia,” Sarah recalled. “I didn’t even know her full story, but I told them, ‘Don’t euthanize her. I’ll be there in an hour.’”
When Sarah arrived, she was met with the sight of a terrified kitten who flinched at every movement.
“She was scared, but once she realized she was safe, she started purring,” Sarah said. “It was like she was saying thank you.”
But as Sarah examined her more closely, she realized Halo was either blind or had severely limited vision.
That discovery raised even more questions, how had this fragile kitten ended up alone in a park in the first place?
The answer came soon after, and it shocked everyone.
Sarah asked the shelter if they knew how Halo had gotten there. They explained that someone had dropped her off after supposedly “finding” her.
But something about the story didn’t sit right with Sarah. That park wasn’t a place you’d just stumble upon. You had to drive there.
Determined to uncover the truth, Sarah and the shelter team requested security footage from the city. When they finally watched the video, their worst fears were confirmed.
The footage showed someone abandoning the kitten in the park, blind, disoriented, and completely alone.

Sarah immediately rushed Halo to the vet. Initially, they suspected she had cerebellar hypoplasia, a condition that affects balance and coordination.
But after running a series of tests, the truth came out, Halo had suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The injury explained her constant wobbling and tilted head. She was put on antibiotics and steroids, and Sarah hoped things would start to improve.
But soon, Halo began having seizures.
“I knew something wasn’t right,” Sarah said. “So I took her to a specialist for another opinion.”
The second vet confirmed the brain injury but discovered something even more concerning.
Deep inside Halo’s ear was a growth, possibly a polyp or tumor, that was pressing against her brain. It was likely the source of her neurological issues.
The vet recommended a specialized surgery to look deeper inside the ear and remove the growth if possible.
It would require anesthesia, which is risky for cats with brain injuries, but it was Halo’s best chance at recovery.
“The vet said she could perform both the examination and surgery at the same time,” Sarah explained.
“It’s the best option to stop her condition from getting worse and maybe even reverse some of the damage.”
Halo’s surgery is scheduled in the coming weeks, and while the road ahead is uncertain, her rescuers are full of hope.
Until then, she’s staying in a loving foster home, surrounded by warmth, safety, and endless cuddles.
Despite everything she’s been through, Halo is affectionate and purrs whenever she’s held.
“She struggles with basic things right now,” Sarah said. “She can’t eat without help, and she topples over trying to use her litter box.
But she never gives up. She’s such a fighter.”
The operation will cost thousands of dollars, but Sarah insists Halo is worth every penny. “She deserves a real chance at life,” she said.
“After everything she’s survived, it’s the least we can do.”
Thanks to the care of her rescuers, Halo’s story has already touched hearts far beyond Arkansas.
